Spain's Tax Agency refunds over €9.7 billion to taxpayers

The Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) has returned €9.361 billion to 12,953,000 taxpayers following the close of the 2025 personal income‑tax (IRPF) filing season on 30 June. By the end of the campaign 79.1 % of refund requests had been processed and 66.4 % of the total amounts owed had been paid out. A total of 25.613 million tax returns were filed, 4.2 % more than the previous year, including 16.376 million with a refund result and 7.475 million with a payable amount.

In Castilla‑La Mancha, the agency refunded €395.1 million to 574,227 residents, broken down as €71.9 million to 136,732 taxpayers in Albacete, €85.6 million to 161,084 in Ciudad Real, €37.8 million to 72,480 in Cuenca, €92.7 million to 103,906 in Guadalajara and €194.5 million to 248,072 in Toledo. Digital filing channels saw strong uptake, with 2.4 million returns submitted via “Renta Directa,” 1.216 million through the “Le llamamos” plan and nearly 883,000 via the agency’s app. The campaign also generated 53,700 corrective filings after preventive notices and processed more than 227,800 wealth‑tax declarations totaling €2.512 billion in liabilities.
