Spain's Valencia and Segovia regions boost infrastructure for flood protection and road safety

The Generalitat Valenciana is creating a network of green infrastructure to lower flood risk and increase resilience across the provinces of Castellón, Valencia and Alicante. The plan includes floodable parks such as the Mamàs Belgues site in Ontinyent, 72 km of green and river corridors linking the Albufera, the Natural Park of the Turia and the Horta area, and the restoration of 1,500 ha damaged by past floods. Regional commissioner Raúl Mérida stressed that nature‑based solutions are now an obligation for municipal protection.

In Segovia, the provincial council has completed upgrades on the SG‑V‑1113 road between Valvieja and Francos, a two‑kilometre stretch that connects the N‑110 with the SG‑135. The works, financed with €175,571 from the 2025 budget, involved resurfacing, widening the carriageway, reinforcing the shoulders and repainting markings to improve driving comfort and safety. The contract was awarded to Exfamex SL.
