Spain's Vox challenges licence for new TV channel La Séptima

On 27 July, the far‑right party Vox lodged a contentious‑administrative appeal before Spain's Audiencia Nacional, contesting the licence awarded to the consortium SIETE for the forthcoming national digital terrestrial television channel La Séptima. Vox claims the allocation breaches legal requirements and the principles governing such concessions. The licence was issued by the Secretariat of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence after the Council of Ministers approved it on 26 May.

La Séptima, promoted by José Miguel Contreras and backed by shareholders Andrés Varela Entrecanales, Diego Prieto, Adolfo Utor and José Luis Manzano, has set 5 November as its launch date, coinciding with a re‑allocation of spectrum. The legal move introduces uncertainty for the schedule, but the channel maintains its plans to begin broadcasting.
