Spain's wholesale electricity price falls sharply on July 12, 2026

The Iberian electricity market operator (OMIE) reported that on Sunday 12 July 2026 the wholesale price of electricity dropped dramatically, with several hours near zero euros per megawatt‑hour. The lowest prices occurred between 03:00–05:00 h (below €1/MWh) and again from 12:00–17:00 h (around €5/MWh) as solar generation peaked and industrial demand fell. The most expensive period was 21:00–22:00 h, but even then prices stayed under €55/MWh, far lower than weekday peaks.

On the following weekday, 13 July 2026, the average market price rose to €124.96/MWh, while the regulated PVPC tariff averaged €180.68/MWh. The cheapest hour that day was 15:00–16:00 h at €104.12/MWh, and the highest was 21:00–22:00 h at €326.26/MWh. Consumers are advised to shift high‑consumption activities—such as laundry, dishwashing, electric‑vehicle charging, or running heat pumps—to the identified low‑price windows to reduce electricity bills.

These price patterns reflect the typical weekend effect in Spain, where reduced industrial demand and abundant renewable generation, especially solar, create a surplus that pushes spot prices down, offering a cost‑saving opportunity for households on the PVPC scheme.
