Spain's Wine Regulators Introduce Viticultor Portal and Hold Albariño Competition

The Consejo Regulador de la DOCa Rioja has launched a new online Portal del Viticultor, a web platform that uses artificial intelligence to monitor vineyards, provide agronomic and climate data, and predict production. The system flags parcels that exceed authorized yields, issuing alerts that require growers to take corrective actions before set deadlines, such as the 9 August 2026 limit for red‑grape harvests in Rioja Oriental.

In Cambados, the Consejo Regulador de la D.O. Rías Baixas organized the XXXVIII Cata Concurso Rías Baixas Albariño. Sixty 2025 vintage wines were tasted by 21 judges; twelve advanced to the final tasting, and three winners will be announced on 2 August. Master of Wine Almudena Alberca described the vintage as “Muy Buena” and said Albariño “is in super trend worldwide,” while Rogelio Enríquez highlighted the “very high medium level, with very correct and well‑made wines.”
