Spain's Youth Ministry Report Finds 80% of Young People Want Political Participation

Ayuda en Acción presented a report on Monday at Spain's Ministry of Youth and Childhood, with Minister Sira Rego in attendance. The study, which surveyed vulnerable young people, found that eight out of ten want to take part in policies that affect their future.

Barriers identified include precarious employment, difficulties in achieving independence and a lack of opportunities. Seventy‑four percent of respondents reported having worked without a contract at some point. Minister Rego said, “A strong democracy needs the voice of young people. It is unfair to label them apathetic.” Sociologist and content creator Miriam Jiménez added that “young people are in politics but from another point of view: they are committed and heard; the problem is access to institutions.”

The report, titled “Desconexión y futuro: una juventud atrapada,” calls for urgent action to enable youth to build dignified life projects and participate on equal terms.
