Spanish agricultural hubs Níjar and El Ejido showcase innovation at Fruit Attraction

Representatives from the Spanish municipalities of Níjar and El Ejido attended the Fruit Attraction international trade fair at IFEMA Madrid to showcase their regional agroindustrial leadership and innovation.

In Níjar, Mayor José Francisco Garrido highlighted the municipality’s significant role in organic production, noting that it possesses over 3,000 hectares of certified organic crops out of a total of 6,000 hectares. He emphasized that Níjar holds the highest percentage of organic farming surface area in Europe, focusing on sustainability through efficient water use and soil care.

In El Ejido, Mayor Julia Ibáñez represented more than 35 local companies at the event. El Ejido manages over 13,500 hectares of intensive cultivation, accounting for 40% of Almería’s horticultural production and approximately 70% of its fruit and vegetable commercialization. The local administration noted the strategic importance of the fair for securing European supply agreements, while also addressing challenges such as pest control, rising production costs, and the need for water infrastructure.
