Spanish authorities combat major forest fires in Soria and Guadalajara provinces

A wildfire in Utrilla (Arcos de Jalón) in Soria province burned 380 hectares, the largest in the region since 2015. The fire, declared at 13:45 and controlled by 16:52 on the same day, mainly affected agricultural land (303 ha) and some shrubland (76 ha). Over 20 agencies participated, including regional environmental agents, a helicopter, ELIF brigade, autobombas, local fire brigades and volunteer tractor operators. The cause remains under investigation and the mayor of Arcos de Jalón thanked the emergency personnel and local farmers for their efforts.

Separately, the municipality of Sigüenza issued a statement praising the response of emergency services and expressing solidarity with residents of the affected municipalities in the Sierra Norte of Guadalajara. The communiqué highlighted the work of INFOCAM, the Castilla‑La Mancha regional government, the provincial deputation, the Military Emergency Unit, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, the Guardia Civil, firefighters, civil protection, the Red Cross and other agencies. Ongoing actions include containing the fire’s advance, protecting inhabited areas, preventive evacuations and reinforcing perimeter lines.
