Spanish biotech firms win health innovation awards

Polar NanoPharma, a biotechnology company based in l’Arboç, received the 5th BBVA Business Innovation Award in Tarragona for its nanomedicine platform that encapsulates existing cancer drugs in nanoparticle carriers designed to target tumour cells while sparing healthy tissue. CEO Josep Rocas explained that the system is intended to reduce toxicity and improve therapeutic efficacy, with animal‑model testing already showing promising results and plans to begin human trials within four years.

In the Community of Madrid, the companies Stablepharma and SmartBio Analytics, both located in Qube Technology Park, were honoured at the 2026 City of Tres Cantos Business Awards. Stablepharma was recognised for developing a cold‑chain‑independent technology that stabilises medicines and vaccines, potentially lowering logistics costs and expanding access in low‑infrastructure markets. SmartBio Analytics received the Innovation Business Award for establishing the region’s first bio‑analytical laboratory certified in BPL/GLP, supporting regulated pharmaceutical development. The awards underline Spain’s growing role as a hub for health‑focused deep‑tech innovation.
