Spanish cities postpone parking openings and ramp up traffic fines

In Alicante, the new multi‑storey car park intended to provide 140 spaces – including eight for people with reduced mobility – was slated to open on Friday, 19 June, to coincide with the start of the Hogueras festivals. Work continued on that day, with unfinished paving, concrete work and minor elevator problems. The railway infrastructure manager ADIF, which owns the site, said additional hours were needed, delaying the opening.

In Sevilla, Mayor José Luis Sanz announced that from 28 September the city’s traffic‑camera system will begin issuing fines to non‑resident vehicles entering the historic centre. The enforcement will start when the new tram‑bus (BTR) begins service to the Plaza del Duque. Exempt vehicles will include the BTR, public buses, taxis, rides‑hailing services, loading vehicles and registered resident‑garage cars. The plan also introduces priority signalling at key intersections and requires local parking operators to record licence plates of entering cars.
