Spanish city mayors report three‑year progress in Jerez and Huelva

Mayor María José García‑Pelayo of Jerez said the municipal administration has completed about 80 % of its ‘Plan Jerez’, cutting municipal bank debt by €30 million and securing a €148 million fund for home‑care services through 2028. The city has added 28 new buses, created 438 parking spaces, hired 74 extra police officers and invested €7.5 million in street resurfacing and public facilities such as the Astoria cinema and Central Library.

In Huelva, Mayor Pilar Miranda highlighted rapid growth and urban expansion, launching the Ensanche Sur and Plaza Mayor projects and planning 7 000 new homes—including 1 000 social‑housing units. The administration has approved licences for nearly 400 homes in five months, revitalised historic sites and pushed for a high‑speed rail link to Faro, gaining support from the Portuguese government, the EU and nearby Spanish municipalities. Investments total more than €7 million for neighbourhood upgrades, with additional spending on cleaning, road works and new parking facilities.

Both mayors framed the three‑year period as a turnaround from economic difficulty to improved services, infrastructure and social welfare for their citizens.
