Spanish Civil Guard probes three men for arson in Castellón forests
The Civil Guard in Castellón investigated three men as suspected perpetrators of separate forest fires in the province.
The first incident was a fire reported on 13 June in an agricultural plot in Soneja, burning about 45 m². A 64‑year‑old man was identified as the probable arsonist, with investigators saying the blaze was set using an incendiary product in the dark.
The second case involved a 38‑year‑old man suspected of attempting to start a forest fire on 20 June near kilometre 9.5 of the CV‑190 road in Atzeneta del Maestrat. SEPRONA officers performed an on‑site inspection to assess the risk of spread.
The third investigation, carried out by SEPRONA in Sant Mateu, concerns another man accused of a delict against collective safety for a fire that damaged the local forest mass.
All investigations have been forwarded to the competent judicial authority. The Civil Guard reminded the public that most forest fires are human‑caused and urged strict precautionary measures during the summer season.
