Slovenia to host 2026 European Road Cycling Championships
Slovenia will host the European Road Cycling Championships from October 2 to 7, 2026, in Ljubljana and across 12 municipalities in the Gorenjska region. The event features 14 titles and is expected to draw approximately 800 to 900 riders from over 40 nations.
The competition schedule features a reversed format compared to previous years, beginning with road races and concluding with individual time trials. Key highlights include the elite women's road race on October 3 and the elite men's road race on October 4, which will feature a challenging 22.1 km circuit in Šenčur including the Možjanca climb.
Prominent cyclists expected to participate include Remco Evenepoel and Mads Pedersen, while the Spanish team will be led by Juan Ayuso and Paula Blasi. Following the recent World Championships in Montreal, where Spanish rider Benjamín Noval secured a junior double in the time trial and road race, many athletes are transitioning immediately to this continental competition. Local authorities have warned of road closures and traffic restrictions in several municipalities to accommodate the racing caravan.
