Spanish families spend average €1,502 on beach holidays
A survey by the Organización de Consumidores y Usuarios (OCU) finds that the average cost of a beach vacation for a Spanish family is €1,502, covering accommodation, transport, food and leisure. The beach remains the top choice for 33% of families, while trips abroad cost an average €2,641 and are chosen by 11%. Village trips and mountain holidays each attract 8% of respondents, with average spends of €583 and €935 respectively. Thirty percent of families say they will not travel this summer, a rise of five points from 2022.
Hotels are the preferred accommodation for 35% of families, followed by rental apartments (20%), own homes (18%) and relatives' houses (14%). Cheaper options such as campings (7%) and staying with friends (4%) are less popular. The OCU advises using secure payment platforms, opting for free‑cancellation policies and keeping all booking documentation. For disputes under €2,000, consumers can pursue small‑claims court without a lawyer.
