Spanish Government allocates €363.7 million for public transport
The Spanish government has approved a budget of 363.7 million euros to support public transport systems for the 2026 fiscal year. According to Royal Decree 826/2026, the funds are designated to sustain regular public transport services in four key regions.
Barcelona will receive the largest portion, totaling 149,301,520 euros for its Metropolitan Transport Authority. The Madrid Regional Transport Consortium follows with 126,894,000 euros. Additionally, the Canary Islands have been allocated 47,500,000 euros, while the Valencia Metropolitan Transport Authority will receive 40,000,000 euros.
The Ministry of Transport stated that these interventions are necessary due to the high volume of affected population, the intensity of travel, and the impact of these systems on general economic activity. The decree emphasizes that regular passenger transport is an essential public service for citizens.
