Spanish Government Grants €27.5 million to Andalusian Towns for Storm Damage Repair
The Spanish central government, through the Ministry of Territorial Policy, allocated more than €24.3 million to the municipality of Isla Cristina and €3.2 million to San Juan del Puerto in Andalusia. The funds were handed over by the sub‑delegate of the Government in Huelva, María José Rico, to Isla Cristina’s mayor Jenaro Orta and San Juan del Puerto’s mayor Rocío Cárdenas. The money is intended to repair and modernise infrastructure damaged by recent severe storms, improve water networks, and strengthen flood‑prevention measures under Royal Decree‑Law 5/2026. Additional support was announced for the primary sector: over €1 million in direct aid for local fishermen (108 vessels) and farmers (21 recipients) in Isla Cristina. The investment aims to boost municipal resilience against future extreme weather events and support the local economy.
