Andalusia storm damage & flood mitigation

Since July 2024 the Andalusian government has progressively expanded its response to the winter storms that damaged roads, irrigation and historic sites. Initial emergency funds covered repairs to rural roads in Granada, irrigation upgrades in 41 municipalities and a nature‑based flood‑risk project in Los Barrios. In late July 2026 the Junta de Andalucía announced a €619 million package to repair watercourses, drainage and other hydraulic infrastructure hit by the severe storms. €543 million will be transferred to municipalities for 559 reconstruction projects, €76.6 million will fund works by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadalquivir, and a new €200 million assistance line will support urban water‑course works. The programme also provides more than €22 million for vegetation control on autonomous roads across eight provinces to improve safety and lower fire risk, and pushes forward transport projects such as the southern extension of the Granada metro. Collectively, these actions illustrate an escalating, region‑wide effort to restore and harden Andalusia’s infrastructure against future flooding.
