Spanish government pays diesel subsidies to Almería shipowners

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has ordered the payment of economic aid to compensate fishing shipowners for rising diesel prices caused by conflict in the Middle East. In the province of Almería, the first payment will benefit 129 shipowners operating 135 vessels.

Across Andalusia, the order signed on August 14 includes a total payment of 682,858.54 euros to 682 shipowners owning 738 vessels. The process will be handled automatically, meaning beneficiaries do not need to submit a request, though they must verify their inclusion in the list.

The aid is calculated at 0.20 cents per liter of diesel, with a maximum of 200,000 euros per vessel and 400,000 euros per shipowner. This specific payment compensates for fuel consumed during March and April 2026, based on estimated daily consumption and active working days.
