Spanish diesel price economic impacts

Overview

Rising diesel prices, attributed to conflict in the Middle East, have prompted economic relief measures and warnings within Spain’s primary industries.

In August 2026, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food ordered diesel subsidies to compensate fishing shipowners. In Andalusia, the aid totaled 682,858.54 euros for 682 shipowners to cover fuel consumed in March and April. The subsidy was calculated at 0.20 cents per liter.

By September, the transport and logistics sector reported similar economic pressures. The Provincial Federation of Transport (Fetrama) warned that over 6,000 companies in Alicante are at risk, suggesting that the 20-cent per liter subsidy might be insufficient. Fetrama president Antonio Marco noted that the administrative reimbursement process can reduce liquidity for small and medium-sized enterprises. Despite these costs, employment in the logistics and transport sector showed signs of stabilization in August, with a marginal monthly increase in total workers.
