Spanish Health and Education Ministries Launch National School Health Promotion Network

Spain's Minister of Health, Mónica García, and Minister of Education, Milagros Tolón, announced a joint initiative to create a national "Red de Escuelas Promotoras de Salud" (Network of School Health Promoters). The plan aims to build a "network of networks" that links regional school health programs across the country, integrating health promotion into the educational environment.

García emphasized that “health is not only what happens in a hospital, but also what occurs in the neighborhood, the home, work or social ties.” The initiative aligns with the National Health System's strategy for health promotion and disease prevention up to 2026, drawing on lessons from the COVID‑19 crisis and the WHO definition of health as complete physical, mental and social well‑being. It seeks to coordinate actions among health and education departments, autonomous communities, and schools to improve conditions for children, adolescents and the wider population.
