Spain household savings rate falls to 11% in Q2 2026

Spanish household savings rates have declined to 11% of gross disposable income in the second quarter of 2026, marking the lowest level since the first quarter of 2023. This figure follows six consecutive quarters of decline.

According to data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), gross disposable income rose by 5.5% year-on-year to 303,933 million euros. However, this growth was accompanied by a 7.1% increase in final consumption expenditure, reaching 247,410 million euros. Total household savings amounted to 57,019 million euros, representing a 0.6% decrease compared to the previous year.

Investment also saw growth, increasing by 5.6% to 21,911 million euros. A MAPFRE study highlights that while 70% of Spaniards report saving regularly, significant disparities exist based on gender and age. Men save an average of 306 euros per month, while women save 236 euros. The study notes that many non-savers cite insufficient income and the rising cost of living as primary barriers rather than a lack of interest in saving.
