Spanish households increasingly turn to electricity price comparators
According to Spain’s telecom regulator CNMC, 35.8% of households that changed electricity provider in the fourth quarter of 2025 used online price‑comparison tools, the highest share since the regulator began its Panel of Households. A similar share (34.5%) applied to gas contracts, indicating a shift from cold‑calling sales to digital self‑service driven by higher energy bills, easier switching procedures and greater consumer awareness.
On Sunday 28 June 2026 the wholesale electricity price in Spain fell to €66.46 /MWh, the lowest level since the market’s 2022 surge. The cheapest hourly slot was 13:00‑14:00 at €0.0199 /kWh, while the most expensive was 22:00‑23:00 at €0.1806 /kWh. Prices continue to be influenced by international gas costs and CO₂ allowance prices.
