Spanish initiatives launch support for Alzheimer's caregivers
Various initiatives in Spain are being launched to support Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. In Tomiño, the local council and AFAGA Alzheimer have introduced the ‘Coidándonos’ program. This psychoeducational project consists of 12 sessions led by professionals in fields such as psychology, law, social work, physiotherapy, and nursing. The program aims to address caregiver burnout, emotional management, legal rights, and the promotion of autonomy for those caring for dependent elderly relatives.
In Tarifa, the association AFA Tarifa is organizing a series of awareness activities for September and October to mark World Alzheimer's Day. Under the slogan ‘El NO, ya no es respuesta’, the program includes musical events, professional colloquiums on topics such as the relationship between microbiota and Alzheimer's, and the impact of physical activity on cognitive health. The schedule also features a flag-raising ceremony and a manifesto reading to advocate for better care and visibility for those affected by the disease.
