Vigo City Council ordered to pay 4.5 million euros to Port Authority
The High Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG) has ordered the Vigo City Council to pay 4,583,632.93 euros, plus legal interest, to the Port Authority of Vigo. The ruling stems from the council's failure to meet maintenance obligations established in the 1992 Abrir Vigo al Mar agreement.
The agreement, signed by the City Council, the Free Trade Zone Consortium, and the former Port Works Board, required the municipality to maintain the spaces affected by the project. Following the expiration of the agreement, the Port Authority had to fund various repairs to restore these areas to their original state.
Included in the compensation are costs for reconstructing the area that collapsed during the O Marisquiño festival in August 2018. The court noted that the Port Authority excluded costs for improvements not covered by the maintenance mandate, such as the construction of a bike lane. The TSXG rejected the council's objections to the calculation procedure, finding that the Port Authority respected all legal rights to present evidence and allegations.
