Spanish mango harvest begins early due to high temperatures

The Spanish mango campaign is beginning earlier than usual due to high temperatures in the Costa Tropical and Axarquía regions. While high heat has accelerated fruit maturation, production volumes are expected to be lower than in previous years. Estimates for the harvest vary, with some local reports suggesting between 12,000 and 15,000 tons, while Intertropic anticipates a volume slightly below the 55,500 tons recorded in 2025.

Despite the lower yields, there are positive expectations regarding fruit quality and plant recovery following previous weather challenges. The limited supply may help maintain favorable prices for farmers. Industry experts anticipate origin prices to remain around one euro per kilo, similar to last year.

A significant logistical challenge for the sector is the narrow commercial window, which typically lasts only six to eight weeks from September through October. Approximately 40% of Spanish-grown mangoes are consumed domestically, while 60% are exported to markets including France, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
