Spanish ministers to address Ceuta migration crisis in Congress
Spanish Ministers Sira Rego and Ana Redondo are scheduled to appear before the Congress of Deputies on Monday, August 31, to address the humanitarian crisis in Ceuta following a mass influx of migrants in late July.
Sira Rego, Minister of Youth and Childhood, will testify before the Youth and Childhood Commission regarding the protection and rights of unaccompanied minors. To address the crisis, the Ministry and various autonomous communities recently approved an extraordinary credit of 25 million euros for migrant child care. Proposed relief measures include direct transfers between communities via cooperation agreements, the immediate availability of approximately 500 places in the Peninsula managed by entities, and family foster care.
Ana Redondo, Minister of Equality, will appear before the Equality Commission to discuss the management of the crisis, specifically focusing on the attention provided to women and girls, including addressing reports of sexual violence and human trafficking.
