Spanish municipalities advance Low Emission Zone implementations

Several Spanish cities are progressing with the implementation of Low Emission Zones (ZBE) to improve urban mobility and air quality.

In Cádiz, the City Council has launched a public tender for the maintenance of the access control systems for its two designated zones: the historic center and the Campo del Sur area. The contract, valued at approximately 2.07 million euros, covers the next two years and includes preventive and corrective maintenance of traffic regulation, signage, and surveillance equipment to ensure service continuity and public safety.

In Sagunt, the Low Emission Zone is scheduled to begin its implementation on December 15. The city will first focus on the Ciutat Vella district, utilizing existing access control systems. Under the new regulations, zero-emission vehicles will be permitted to enter Ciutat Vella without prior authorization. However, once the full regime begins in December, drivers who violate access, circulation, or parking restrictions will face fines of 200 euros, classified as serious infractions.
