Valencia's Júcar River Authority plans ten flood‑mitigation projects
The October 29 2024 DANA that hit Valencia prompted the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar (CHJ) to draft ten flood‑mitigation actions covering the Poyo ravine, the Magro river and the Pozal‑Saleta system. The projects, worth about €4 million and awarded to two engineering consortia, aim to create controlled water‑storage zones, flood‑able parks and rural excavations that temporarily retain runoff. The new approach goes beyond enlarging river channels; it seeks to lessen water speed and height before it reaches urban areas. The first proposals are expected by autumn, after which a public participation process will allow authorities, organisations and citizens to comment before final decisions are made.
