Spanish municipalities expand sports programs for social inclusion and community health

Municipalities in Spain are expanding sports programming to promote health and social inclusion. In Alicante, the City Council has awarded a contract to Sportmadness Eventos S.L. to provide 1,558 annual hours of sports activities specifically for minors from vulnerable backgrounds. The two-year contract, valued at 90,076 euros, targets 150 children aged 6 to 17, offering disciplines such as futsal, basketball, handball, and volleyball to foster healthy habits and prevent social risk.

Simultaneously, El Ejido has reported record participation in its Municipal Sports Schools. The program has reached over 5,000 participants, including 3,500 children and approximately 2,000 adults. The expanded offering includes roughly thirty different modalities, such as football, tennis, pilates, and rowing, as well as new functional training sessions designed to improve physical condition across various age groups.
