Regional sports initiatives in Spain

Overview

Regional sports initiatives in Spain continue to expand through the European Week of Sport and the ‘#BeActive’ campaign. In Benavente, activities include climbing, night cycling, urban basketball, and charity swimming for cancer research. Tomelloso has also joined these efforts with padel tournaments, yoga, and a solidarity cycling route organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).

Municipalities are increasingly using sports to promote social inclusion. In Alicante, a contract was awarded to Sportmadness Eventos S.L. to provide 1,558 annual hours of sports activities for 150 minors from vulnerable backgrounds. In Moguer, the Andalusia Inclusive Basketball Championship promoted the integration of people with disabilities. In the Murcia region, the iSportFest 2026 attracted over 100,000 participants through more than 180 free activities, including wheelchair basketball and adapted archery.

New efforts focus on training and charity. The Universitat Politècnica de València and UPV IN are conducting inclusive sports awareness workshops in municipalities such as Segorbe, Almussafes, Vila-real, and Villena to help clubs structure inclusive teams and secure funding. In Albacete, the VIII Metasport Inclusive Race is scheduled for November 15, featuring non-competitive routes for children and adults to support social entities.

Charity and recognition also feature in local programming. In Écija, an equestrian show raised 1,022 euros for the Economato Social Virgen del Valle to assist vulnerable families. Meanwhile, the 33rd Premios del Deporte Ejidense in El Ejido honored local figures, including Vicente Puertas Rodríguez for his leadership with CD El Ejido Futsal and rower Roberto Privistirescu following his gold medal at the Junior World Rowing Championships.
