Spanish municipalities implement participatory budgeting and local projects
Various Spanish municipalities are implementing or managing local governance initiatives, primarily focused on participatory budgeting and community infrastructure.
In Getxo, the City Council has moved to the second phase of its 2027 participatory budgets, presenting ten finalists from 935 original proposals. Projects include beach furniture, decorative signage, and summer cinema. In Formentera, the Island Council is presenting seven projects for a 100,000 euro budget, ranging from animal road safety to oncology patient support. Calafell is entering its ninth edition of participatory budgeting with 32 proposals, while Palafrugell has opened voting on 40 proposals for a 360,000 euro fund.
In Alcoy, the 2027 participatory budget process is continuing with a 400,000 euro allocation, featuring a new pre-selection phase to clarify the voting process. Meanwhile, in San Adrián del Valle, the local government has put out a tender to convert old school buildings into a social center with a 76,000 euro budget. In Mataró, the administration has suspended a sanction against a resident who had personally repaired street furniture and planted trees, acknowledging a lack of municipal agility in addressing previous maintenance requests.
