Spanish Municipalities Push Forward Industrialized Public Housing Projects

The city council of Bormujos approved a land‑swap tender to develop the Bormujos Village project, a protected‑housing scheme built with industrialised construction methods. The initiative, championed by urban planning delegate Isabel Madera (VOX), aims to convert municipal land into affordable homes without the council bearing the full financial risk.

In the nearby city of Elda, building‑permit applications have risen six‑fold, reviving housing projects that were stalled after the 2008 property‑market crash. Mayor Rubén Alfaro (PSOE) reported that more than a hundred new residential units are expected to enter the market as former commercial and factory sites are repurposed for housing and other uses. Both municipalities are using innovative urban‑planning tools to increase the supply of protected housing and stimulate local development.
