Spanish municipalities secure historic sites in Sant Cugat and Palma

The town council of Sant Cugat has cordoned off the perimeter of the early‑20th‑century chimney of the former Jesuit boiler for safety reasons. Municipal technicians are inspecting the interior through a newly cut opening, carrying out photogrammetric surveys and monitoring the structure as part of a preservation study.

In Palma, the city council is preparing to vacate the former prison area. A census identified 42 people still living there; 12 have been offered housing by the diocese, while the whereabouts of the others remain unclear. The council aims to complete the evacuation by September and finish the final clearance of the site by the end of the year.
