Spanish Navy deploys vessels for Mediterranean security and NATO maneuvers
The Spanish Navy has deployed multiple vessels to enhance maritime security and interoperability in the Mediterranean. The patrol vessel P-71 ‘Serviola’ participated in the Sea Border 2026 maneuvers near the Libyan coast as part of the 5+5 initiative. Notably, the ‘Serviola’ made a port call in Tripoli, marking the first visit by a Spanish Navy ship to the city since 2010.
Additionally, the frigate ‘Blas de Lezo’ (F-103) and the combat replenishment ship ‘Patiño’ (A-14) have joined NATO’s Standing Naval Group 2 (SNMG-2). Over the next two and a half months, these vessels will conduct surveillance, deterrence, and multinational training exercises, including MARE APERTO 26, MAVI BALINA 26, and NIIRIS 26. These operations aim to strengthen tactical coordination and maritime security alongside allied nations such as Greece, Italy, France, and Turkey.
