Spanish organizations combat elderly loneliness through social support
Organizations in Spain are addressing the rising issue of unwanted loneliness among the elderly through specialized support programs and volunteer networks.
Fundació Avismón is marking 30 years of combating social isolation by providing home accompaniment, medical follow-ups, and community activities. The foundation utilizes a network of approximately 500 volunteers to foster social bonds and combat ageism through education and community engagement.
Additionally, the Siempre Acompañados program by Fundación La Caixa, in collaboration with Cruz Roja Lérida, provides individualized psychological support and group activities. These interventions aim to help elderly individuals regain autonomy, build self-esteem, and overcome the despair often following the loss of a spouse or increased social fragility.
