Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez rules out combined 2027 elections

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez told reporters at the EU‑Balkans summit in Tivat, Montenegro, that there will be no "super‑Sunday" in May 2027 where Spain’s general, regional and municipal elections would be held on the same day. He said the political debate should focus on local mayors and autonomous presidents and rejected calls from regional parties such as the Basque PNV and Catalan Junts to align the votes.

Sánchez also addressed rumours linking him to former PSOE member Leire Díez, denying any knowledge of her alleged activities and emphasizing the party’s internal review. He reiterated his commitment to complete the current legislative term through 2027 and announced that the government will launch the budget‑preparation process for the next fiscal year.

The statements come as Spain prepares for the next electoral cycle and as the government moves forward with the 2027 state budget drafting.
