Spanish police forces face accusations of political manipulation by major parties

Vox has demanded that the People's Party (PP) and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) apologise to residents of Granada for what it describes as the politicisation of the city’s Local Police. The party says reports have identified two criminal groups aligned with the left and right that allegedly manipulated recruitment exams to benefit their affiliates, and it blames the PP and PSOE for the alleged scheme.

At the same time, the director of the Guardia Civil and Deputy Operational Director Lieutenant General Manuel Llamas are scheduled to appear before a judge on 16 July. They face charges of continuous prevarication and offences against the administration of justice in the “Cloacas del PSOE” case, which investigates a purported PSOE‑financed plot to disrupt judicial investigations, including alleged requests for confidential information and a subsequent internal probe within the anti‑terrorism unit (UCO). Both matters highlight concerns over political interference in Spain’s police institutions.
