Spanish ports launch major expansion projects in Algeciras and Huelva
Total Terminal International (TTI) in Algeciras announced a capital increase of €70 million, raising its equity to €133.35 million to fund a €135 million first‑phase expansion of its terminal. The project will add 15.9 ha to the Isla Verde Exterior quay, increasing handling capacity by about 0.5 million TEU to reach 2.1 million TEU and is slated to start operations in the first half of 2028. TTI, owned equally by South‑Korean carrier Hyundai Merchant Marine and French group CMA CGM (through Stonepeak), secured a concession extension that will keep the terminal in operation until 2066.
Moeve and Exolum have secured €105 million in project‑finance funding from BBVA and Kutxabank for the Muelle Sur development in the Port of Huelva. The construction, already more than half complete, includes a 511‑metre berth that will serve the La Rábida Energy Park and a new 2G biocombustion plant, enhancing the logistics of sustainable raw materials and renewable fuels. The financing is intended to boost operational efficiency, flexibility and safety, supporting Europe’s energy‑transition goals.
