Spanish prosecutors warn Zapatero of ongoing secret investigations
Spanish anti-corruption prosecutor Elena Lorente has informed the legal team of former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero that there are still “secret pieces” regarding an ongoing investigation. This follows a claim by Zapatero’s lawyer, Víctor Moreno Catena, that certain police reports were missing from the case files.
The prosecutor stated that new reports from the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF) are expected. The investigation involves analyzing communications from a WhatsApp chat known as “Danilo-España,” which was intercepted from the office of lawyer Miguel Palomero. The chat involves Venezuelan investor Danilo Alfonso Díazgranados Manglano.
The case includes scrutiny of transactions involving high-value wine deliveries to Zapatero, reportedly ordered by Díazgranados Manglano. The prosecutor rejected requests to annul the inquiries, maintaining that certain procedural actions within case 77/2024 remain confidential from the defense for the time being.
