Spanish provinces launch funding to combat depopulation
The provinces of Soria and Granada have announced new financial aid packages aimed at addressing demographic challenges and rural depopulation.
In Soria, the Demographic Challenge and European Funds Commission has approved five new subsidy lines under the Plan Soria 2026, totaling 595,000 euros. These funds target youth housing, business investment, vocational training scholarships, generational renewal, and base maintenance. The youth housing initiative specifically offers a non-repayable grant covering 50% of expenses, up to 5,000 euros, for individuals under 40 residing in towns with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
In Granada, the Provincial Council has allocated 2 million euros to support municipalities and local entities with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants that have experienced low demographic growth. This funding is intended to improve quality of life through measures involving transportation, health promotion, connectivity, and the attraction of new residents to small villages.
