Spanish regional health services expand mental health resources
Regional health authorities in Spain are addressing mental health service capacity through different strategic approaches. In Galicia, the Xunta has approved the Mental Health Strategic Plan 2026-2030, backed by a 177 million euro budget. This plan aims to increase the clinical psychology network in primary care to 36 professionals next year, with a long-term goal of reaching 50 by 2030. The initiative includes hiring 357 new healthcare professionals and allocating 12 million euros for infrastructure and equipment.
In Castilla-La Mancha, the political party VOX is demanding the incorporation of General Health Psychologists into the SESCAM system. VOX spokesperson Iván Sánchez criticized the current management, arguing that a lack of public professionals forces patients to seek expensive private consultations. The party is calling for increased public resources to ensure mental health care is accessible through primary care without economic barriers.
