Spanish regional mental health service expansion

Overview

In Spain, regional health authorities are implementing strategic measures to expand mental health resources. In Galicia, the Xunta has approved the Mental Health Strategic Plan 2026-2030, supported by a 177 million euro budget. This initiative intends to increase the clinical psychology network in primary care and involves hiring 357 new healthcare professionals alongside investments in infrastructure.

Concurrently, in Castilla-La Mancha, political pressure is mounting to integrate General Health Psychologists into the SESCAM system. The political party VOX has criticized current management, arguing that insufficient public resources force patients to rely on costly private consultations, and is calling for increased accessibility through primary care.
