Spanish regional leaders pledge new affordable housing and sustainability measures

Huelva mayor Pilar Miranda outlined plans to grant 300 protected‑price housing licences (VPO) by 2027, increase the city’s cleaning budget by nearly €4 million, and expand green spaces such as the Isla Chica park and new arboreal projects. She also highlighted ongoing archaeological excavations in the Vera Cruz plaza with university partners.

Balearic Islands president Marga Prohens said her administration has completed about 95 % of its programme and is seeking a further four‑year term to consolidate results. She pointed to the construction of 5,000 new affordable homes – with another 5,000 planned – and stressed the need for protected or price‑capped housing. Prohens warned that rapid demographic growth is straining health, education and public services, and urged continuation of the Islands’ sustainability pact.
