Spanish regions approve major water‑infrastructure upgrades

The Valencian government announced a €25.7 million investment to modernise the historic Acequia Real del Júcar irrigation channel. The project, overseen by regional minister Francesc Barrachina, will upgrade sector 35 covering 315 ha of farmland between Almussafes, Benifaió and Sollana, benefitting 781 farms and aiming to save roughly 927 000 m³ of water annually while protecting the Albufera wetland.

In a separate scheme, the Tarragona‑Rufino aqueduct is being renewed with a $836.8 million budget. The six‑month works will replace 664 m of old pipe with 500 mm ductile‑iron conduits, increasing capacity and preserving service during the upgrade. The contractor MN Ingeniería y Soluciones leads the project, and Aguas Santafesinas president Renata Ghilotti said: “Esta inversión es estratégica porque mejora la previsibilidad y el caudal de agua potable para toda la ciudad, dejando instalada la infraestructura necesaria para la futura ampliación del campo de captación y el desarrollo urbano local.”
