Spanish regions Cantabria and Castilla‑La Mancha roll out new agricultural subsidies

The Cantabrian regional government has begun paying €5.2 million to about 3,000 livestock farmers under the Zonas con Limitaciones Naturales programme, a measure the authorities say is "strategic to guarantee the maintenance of agricultural activity in the most difficult areas" and demonstrates the government's commitment to the sector.

In Castilla‑La Mancha, the regional agriculture ministry announced it will introduce a per‑hectare aid for saffron cultivators, noting that the crop "has a historic relevance and a tremendous quality level". The proposal follows a Senate vote where the PP and VOX opposed a Socialist motion supporting the crop, and the minister highlighted the need for solid support within the EU's Common Agricultural Policy framework.

Both initiatives aim to sustain rural economies and address specific challenges faced by farmers in their respective regions.
