Spanish regions prepare seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccination campaigns

Regional health authorities in Spain are preparing for the upcoming seasonal vaccination campaigns against influenza and COVID-19.

In Andalusia, the vaccination campaign is scheduled to begin on October 1. Priority groups include children aged 6 months to nearly 5 years, their teaching staff, pregnant women, and children aged 5 to 17 with underlying health risks. For the first time, residents in nursing homes and disability centers, along with their caregivers, will also be eligible starting October 1. Additionally, the age threshold for receiving high-antigen influenza vaccines has been lowered from 80 to 75 years.

In the province of Segovia, part of Castilla y León, the general vaccination campaign will start on October 13, though institutionalized individuals and children will begin on October 1. Authorities are increasing the supply of doses to meet demand; Segovia will receive 52,618 influenza doses, an increase of over 6,000 from the previous season. COVID-19 vaccine supplies in the province are also expected to rise by approximately 26.2% compared to the previous campaign.
