Spanish researchers José Antonio Gázquez and Aurora Polo honored with top academic awards

José Antonio Gázquez Parra, a professor of Electronic Technology at the University of Almería, received the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IEEE‑IMS) national award in a ceremony in Gijón on 9 July. The prize recognises his contributions to electronics, electromagnetic sensing, telemetry and instrumentation, as well as his work on regional projects such as the ELF detection station in the Sierra de los Filabres.

Aurora Polo Rodríguez, a post‑doctoral researcher at the University of Granada, was named a Young Researcher in Computer Science in the SCIE–Fundación BBVA 2026 awards. She was praised for AI‑driven solutions that enable smart‑sensor environments for health‑care and assisted‑living, including non‑invasive monitoring of older adults. She said, "The ultimate goal is not the technology, but the people; we want silent systems that protect dignity and privacy."
