Spain 2026 research awards

In late July 2026 Spain highlighted its scientific talent through multiple award ceremonies. On 9 July, José Antonio Gázquez Parra, a professor of Electronic Technology at the University of Almería, received the IEEE‑IMS national award for his work in electronics, electromagnetic sensing and regional projects such as the ELF detection station in the Sierra de los Filabres. The same ceremony honoured Aurora Polo Rodríguez, a post‑doctoral researcher at the University of Granada, as a Young Researcher in Computer Science for AI‑driven, privacy‑preserving health‑care sensor solutions.

A few days later, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities presented the 2026 National Research Awards. Ángel Carracedo Álvarez was recognised for forensic medicine and genomic diagnostics, while Jesús Martínez de la Fuente received an award for knowledge transfer in nanobiotechnology. Jorge Calvo Zaragoza earned a youth award for pioneering work in optical music recognition and ICT. Together, the events underscore Spain’s broad support for research across engineering, medicine, nanoscience and information technology.
