Spanish speed climber Miguel Gómez set to compete at Barcelona's GRAVITEO festival

Miguel Gómez, a leading Spanish speed‑climbing specialist and 2023 national champion, has become a regular member of Spain’s climbing squad. He recently earned a podium place at a European Speed Cup and will take part in the World Climbing Europe Series at the free GRAVITEO festival, scheduled for 17‑19 July at the Circuit de Barcelona‑Catalunya.

The three‑day event will showcase a range of urban‑sport disciplines alongside speed climbing, including skateboarding, scooter freestyle, roller freestyle, block climbing, speed skating and popular races. Gómez highlighted the sport’s technical precision and the mental focus required, noting that each ascent lasts only a few seconds and any minor error can decide the outcome. He also emphasised speed climbing’s accessibility, saying it “is easy to understand and can attract people who have never climbed before,” and sees the festival as a chance to boost the sport’s visibility in Spain.

Gómez expressed enthusiasm for competing on home soil, describing the opportunity to race in front of a local audience as “extra motivation” and a way to bring more spectators to climbing.
