Spanish student racing teams prepare for international Formula competitions

A team of six teenagers from Nigrán and Baiona, calling themselves Marrucho's Racing Team, has raised about €40,000 to compete in the global STEM Racing championship in Singapore. The group, aged 14‑16, qualified after becoming regional runners‑up and national quarter‑finalists. Operating without school sponsorship, they built a miniature Formula 1 car powered by compressed air and have completed the technical, business and branding requirements for the Professional Class.

In another Spanish effort, the Uniovi eTech Racing squad from Gijón rebuilt its electric Formula Student car after a previous failure to obtain clearance for a race at Montmeló. The redesign features a 20% power increase in the batteries, a switch to a more heat‑resistant resin, and real‑time telemetry for better monitoring. Team leader Pablo Fernández said, "the fear we had turned into pressure; we could not afford to fail again." The car is now set to compete on the Barcelona circuit, aiming to pass the rigorous technical inspection that eliminates one in three entries.

Both projects illustrate how young engineers in Spain are gaining hands‑on experience and seeking international exposure through student motorsport programmes.
